VERY RARE 1938 GERMAN WWII GRAF ZEPPELIN II LZ 130 AIRSHIP PORCELAIN BOWL HEINRICH & CO. BAVARIA

Exceptionally rare 1938 German blue and white Heinrich and Co. porcelain bowl depicting the zeppelin LZ-130, also known as the Graf Zeppelin II. Issued to commemorate the 1938 launch of the zeppelin and the 100th anniversary of the birth of Count Ferdinand von Zeppelin, founder of Luftschiffbau Zeppelin GmbH (LZ).

The bowl is 7 3/8 inches (19cm) in diameter, and 3 3/8 inches (8.5 cm) tall. In excellent condition with no cracks, chips or crazing. With bright, crisp glaze and decoration. Signed on underside with the Heinrich and Company hallmark and "Selb, Bavaria, Germany, Heinrich and Co." Marked around the outer rim in blue lettering "Zur Herinnerung an den 100. Geburtstag des Grafen Ferdinand von Zeppelin 1838. 8 Juli 1938" 

The LZ-130 was the last of the German rigid airships. The zeppelin is shown in flight over the Zeppelin Works in Friedrichshafen, Germany, on the shores of Lake Constance, on the Rhine. The Alps are in the background.

Count von Zeppelin was an airship pioneer and had an illustrious military career, including service as an observer and advisor in the Union Army in the United States during the Civil War.
