ANTIQUE 1914 BLACK FOREST STYLE ORNATELY CARVED EDUCATIONAL SCHOOL BAROMETER
Antique ornately carved oak barometer 1914. With elements of German Black Forest and French Second Empire style, 17 ¾ inches high, 11 ½ inches wide at the top, and 2 inches to 2 ½ inches (at the top) deep. The barometer is 5 inches in diameter, and has its original beveled glass. It appears to be in working condition.
The mechanism looks complete and free of corrosion. The barometer is an aneroid barometer, which means it has no mercury, so it’s safe (and legal) to ship and display.
There is a label on the back, dated 1914, identifying a student named “Percy” who is also identified as a bank clerk, suggesting the barometer may have been used in an educational setting - possibly a school, technical college, or training institution where students would have learned to read barometric pressure as part of studies in meteorology or general science.
In overall excellent condition with one small chip at the bottom left corner.
