C. 1905 YUKON KLONDIKE ALASKA GOLD RUSH INSCRIBED PROSPECTOR'S MINER'S CAST IRON PICK AXE

Authentic, original prospector's/miner's pick axe head from the 1896 to 1899 Klondike Alaska Gold Rush (also known as the Yukon Gold rush). Hand inscribed:

Car Cross (later Carcross) is a nickname for Caribou Crossing, a small town in the Yukon Territory. According to the ScoreNorth web site, “Following the discovery of Klondike gold in 1896, it became a popular stopping off place for stampeders in their migration to and from the gold fields of Dawson City.”

According to Fodor’s “Skagway was the entry point to the White Pass, a gap over the mountains that led to the Yukon River and into the Klondike gold fields.”

Baldy and Pegleg are presumably nicknames of the miner who owned the axe.

Weighs 3 pounds 6 ounces. 16 inches long, 2 1/2 inches wide at widest point.
