Original 1950s/1960s Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey Circus Motorcycle Daredevil Costume Jacket. Worn by famous motorcycle stunt rider Victor Urias, of the Urias Family Globe of Death troupe.
The Globe of Death (aka Globe of Steel), a favorite Barnum and Bailey attraction, features motorcyclists riding at high speed inside a steel mesh sphere. The Urias Family is the first such act to be featured by Ringling Brothers Circus, and is recognized for many other firsts including the first such attraction to have a woman rider.
The jacket is made of heavy silver metallic material with thousands of blue and red sequins and hundreds of tiny real glass mirrors throughout. It also includes the original collar piece similarly decorated.
Both pieces are labeled "Brooks-Van Horn," an official supplier of costumes to Ringling Brothers Barnum and Bailey. One label also features Victor's name.
Very good condition, wear from age and use. Some ornamentation loose, collar piece (see photos) stained, overall solid condition.
I purchased this incredible costume from an auction which included items from the estate of Victor and Kathia Urias.
