HENRY JAMES AUTOBIOGRAPHY 1ST EDITION FREDERICK W. DUPEE 1956 MAURICE SENDAK’S PERSONAL COPY

Regular price $75.00

1st edition, first printing Henry James Autobiography. Personal copy from the library of Maurice Sendak, author of Where the Wild Things Are and other popular children’s books.

Considered the definitive Henry James autobiography. A compilation of three complete books by Henry James, including A Small Boy and Others, Notes of a Son and Brother, and The Middle Years. Edited by Frederick W. Dupee. 1956 Criterion Books. 622 pages. Very good condition, hardcover, no dust jacket.

As noted by The New Yorker in its 1966 profile of Sendak, ‘Among the Wild Things,’ the illustrator specialized in collecting Henry James related first editions, and his library shelves contained nearly 200 James first editions. The copy offered here comes directly from that collection. It was acquired from an auction of items from Maurice Sendak's personal collection, held by the Rosenbach Museum, which at one time held the Sendak archives. The book includes a certificate of authenticity.

Shipped at no charge in the U.S.
