Original c. 1895 reverse painted glass advertising sign for Agency Wallace, a New York chocolate and confectionery company established in 1870. The sign reads "Agency Wallace Candies of Character Est. 1870 New York" in script lettering.
Reverse painted on glass in chocolate brown with gold lettering. Measures 7" x 12" in original wooden frame. Two mounting holes in bottom of frame indicate this was designed as a countertop display. Excellent condition.
Wallace & Company was founded by William Wallace, who operated a confectionery shop at 29 Cortlandt Street in Manhattan starting around 1870. The business was located in lower Manhattan near the Hudson River ferry terminal and Washington Market.
